Shasta Benaim joins Legal Help Centre board

As of November 23, 2021, Shasta Benaim has joined the board of the Legal Help Centre.  Shasta has been a committed volunteer to LHC since she started her practice, and we are sure she will add value to the Board's mission and goals. LHC, whose logo is "Making the law work for everyone" recently celebrated it's 10th year anniversary of community service.  Shasta, and the other members of Bennet Waugh Corne, are proud to be part of LHC's past, and its future.

Volunteer Award Nomination

We are proud to share that Shasta Benaim was recently nominated by the Legal Help Centre for the Lieutenant Governor's Make a Difference Community Award and both the Mayor's and Premier's Volunteer Service Awards.  The Centre had this to say about Shasta:

"Shasta has been volunteering her time and energy to the Legal Help Centre of Winnipeg Inc. (the “Centre”) as a volunteer lawyer for 5 years.  Her assistance has helped countless individuals seeking legal support as well as assisted in the mentorship of numerous students in the faculties of law, social work, criminal justice and conflict resolution.

...

As a non-profit organization that relies on donations to operate, the Centre has a very small staff, so it simply could not function without the generosity and expertise of volunteer lawyers like Shasta. The people we serve are socially and economically disadvantaged and do not qualify for services elsewhere, and therefore we are often their last resort for help. There is an abundance of people needing assistance and limited resources available to provide the help they need. While we have many valuable volunteers who help us respond to the demand, Shasta stands out because of her readiness to answer the call at every occasion. She is regularly available, often on short notice, and always with unbridled enthusiasm."
