Volunteer Award Nomination
We are proud to share that Shasta Benaim was recently nominated by the Legal Help Centre for the Lieutenant Governor's Make a Difference Community Award and both the Mayor's and Premier's Volunteer Service Awards. The Centre had this to say about Shasta:
"Shasta has been volunteering her time and energy to the Legal Help Centre of Winnipeg Inc. (the “Centre”) as a volunteer lawyer for 5 years. Her assistance has helped countless individuals seeking legal support as well as assisted in the mentorship of numerous students in the faculties of law, social work, criminal justice and conflict resolution.
...
As a non-profit organization that relies on donations to operate, the Centre has a very small staff, so it simply could not function without the generosity and expertise of volunteer lawyers like Shasta. The people we serve are socially and economically disadvantaged and do not qualify for services elsewhere, and therefore we are often their last resort for help. There is an abundance of people needing assistance and limited resources available to provide the help they need. While we have many valuable volunteers who help us respond to the demand, Shasta stands out because of her readiness to answer the call at every occasion. She is regularly available, often on short notice, and always with unbridled enthusiasm."
